Guevara's body was tied to a helicopter and taken to the Nuestra Señora de Malta hospital, where pictures of him were taken. Today, some of Guevara's belongings remain at the CIA. A military doctor was ordered to amputate Guevara's hands, and afterward he was taken to an undisclosed location which Bolivia did not reveal. His hands were preserved in formaldahyde and sent to Buenos Aires for fingerprint identification. The fingerprints were proved real and are still on file. they were sent to Cuba, and on October 15, Castro declared a three day period of mourning. Later, he addressed a crowd of almost one million people in Havana. Late in the year 1995, retired Bolivian General Mario Vargas told Jon Lee Anderson that Che's remains were located by a Vallegrande airstrip. Thus began a multi-national search for the body. In July 1997, a group of geologists and forensic anthropologists discovered two mass graves which included Che and six other bodies. One body had his hands amputated like Guevara's were. The teeth on the body also matched a plaster mold of Che's teeth. The final peice of evidence was revealed in the pocket of a jacket next to the body.The contents of the pocket was a small bag of tobacco. Nino de Guzman, the man who had given Che the bag said he was doubtful that it was actually Che until the tobacco was discovered. Che and his comrades were buried in a special moloseum.
Guevara valso owned a 30,000 word diary, including a short story about a young communist guerilla who defeats his fears and a collection of short stories. His diary showed that his group had to form early due to discovery by the Bolivian Army. guevara also revealed troubles recruiting from the locals, due to the fact that they learned the wrong language. As his campaign was closing, Che was suffering from worsening bouts of Asthma, and his last offences in attemt to get medicine.
